January 31st – 7pm-10pm
An art icon and a next-generation art champion teamed up for this exhibit on view at Erie Art Gallery through Jan. 31. It features more than 30 newer abstract works, including Ford’s eight large new acrylic and marker pieces on wood or canvas (and one collaborative piece with daughter Sofia Ford, 12, and 20 assemblages and found-object collages by Schanz, as well as half a dozen of Schanz’s smaller drawings.
Entering the gallery, guests can feel like a kid in a candy shop. The intimate space opens wide to reveal such color, movement, and whimsy that it’s hard to know where to begin. The temptation is to start “figuring out” the works right away. But don’t. Catch your breath, realize this is going to be a brain-tickling jaunt, and give each piece its due.
