FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Many Threads of Quilting
April 28, 2018, Erie, PA – Penn State Behrend Art Administration Student Victoria Alcorn presents her Senior Capstone, The Many Threads of Quilting at the Erie Art Gallery located at 24 West 8th Street. The exhibit event is scheduled for Saturday, April 28th from 12:00 p.m. – 5 p.m., and it is a free exhibit with drinks and assortment of hors d’oeuvres.
The slogan for the event is “Not just any quilt show, but an art exhibit.” Unlike other quilting events, such as quilt shows or conventions, this event is an art exhibit that will display and promote quilting as an art form. Holding this event at The Erie Art Gallery changes the setting to an artistic one that will set the tone of the exhibit and enhance the experience for the audience.
The exhibition will introduce attendees to the history of purposes or ‘threads’ of quilting. Quilting is viewed and used many different ways, from decorative to practical. Many people never get to see how diverse the art form is because it is displayed privately or not at all. This exhibit will bring this art form outside of quilters homes or private collections and into the Erie community and show the Erie community the many different styles, uses, and knowledge that it takes to complete a quilt. The exhibit will also demonstrate to attendees that they can take part in and appreciate the art form by viewing, not having to physically quilt.
